Chapter 8 - Back in the UK

Once we had quashed the black-market Doctor and were back in the UK, the team began getting down to real ISMS work again. I firstly checked my e-mail to see if I had any new wail-maiting. Not a sausage. Then a strange turn of events took place.

Apparently, Geoff had over-stepped his welcome - I always thought that there was a mole in my organisation from the start, and Geoff kept turning up like a rolling stone; I always said he was a nasty piece of fish! He used to be Jim Owen’s second hand man but now he was about as much use as a chocolate orange in front of a fire. I’d noticed that out in Arabia, while we were all interrogating the Doctor, Geoff had wanted to sit on both ends of the fence - he couldn’t see that that he would eventually be left with cheek on his face. Perhaps it was just bad grapes but he was always trying to pack the bus to me. To add insult to industry, he said, “You’re all mouth and no talk!”. It was a one-way dialogue.

Geoff is basically just wool in sheep’s clothing but, because of his constant yabbling on I decided to make him the scrapecoat. He went as white as a feather when I suggested that he had been buttering his own nest during the black-market isms fiasco. He denied it, of course, and refused to accept that he had been feathering his own bread.

One of my team suggested that we send Geoff to prison, but that would make him an old slag and, anyhow, prisons these days are full of luxury items, like five-poster beds. That idea went down like a dead balloon, so I was caught in a cleft fist.

I finally decided on the ultimate deterrent - subscription into the armed services. We subconded Geoff to the President of Libya, Colonel McGaffy. It would make his feathers fly when the bullets started ricketting about but at least he wouldn't be able to show all his cards to the deck again. I, myself, personally hoped he’d end up as flat as a die - the laugh would be on my hands then. However, Geoff was saved at the twelfth hour when someone helped him to escape. We’d both ended up level peggle, but that was no problem off my nose. The rest of the team was working together again.
